Summer 2014 Recap (Part 1)

Sunset on Richardson Lake

This summer has been a whirlwind! Boden and I kicked it off in June with a trip to Metallak Island in South Arm campground.  As the name suggests, it's a beautiful island on Richardson Lake which made it the perfect place for a walking, talking (ok, screaming) little explorer. We played in the sand, swam in the lake and slept hard! Boden ran free and I chased him around all day. It's no surprise the only pics I have are of his back. Little stinker!

Next, a few weeks later in the month of June, we headed Northeast to Acadia National Park. Casey, Kale and I had camped here many times before but it was Bodie's first time and we were so excited to show him the sights, sounds and smells of one of our favorite places.

It was a disaster! Boden would not sleep and neither would the dog. We were in the midst of sleep training at home and the sounds of a bustling campground were not a good mix for trying to get both of our babies to settle down. Boden was in tune with every car that drove by, every bird that sang and every voice he heard. Kale was in tune to Boden's awareness and was a ball of anxiety all night. We maybe had a total of three hours of sleep. It was excruciating and Casey and I debated packing up and going home at 2am. Needless to say, we didn't leave right then but we did pack up at 7am and cut our trip short. We loaded up on coffee and decided to drive the Loop Road, regardless of how we felt. It was worth it and we ended up having a good morning seeing the sights together. I was able to get a few good shots of our trip and the little bit of fun we did have.

We took a few weeks off from camping to enjoy the fun in our own backyard. We swam, spent some time in Bath for the 4th of July and played with friends. We also took a trip to the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray.  Whatever we were doing, we were going at the speed of Boden: no brakes.

After spending time near home for awhile, my parents invited us up to Acadia to stay for a few nights. They were up there for a week and were dying to see the little man roughing it in the woods. Being the good man that he is, Casey stayed home to work and to hang with Kale. This mama jumped at the opportunity to get out of the house and the mundane routine that can sometimes come along with the job of being a SAHM.

My brother, Nate, joined us for the trip so we had a fun travel companion. We had a fantastic time and Boden slept great. He was well into his sleep routine at home and Seawall Campground is much quieter compared to Blackwoods where we had stayed on our "nightmare trip", weeks before. We had a great time and dined on fresh lobster right from the docks, climbed on the rocks, and saw some more of the beauty that draws us each year to Acadia.

Phew! This was the first half of our summer and the fun that we had! We'll sleep when we're dead...
